Canadian Canoe Museum, Archival Database
Touch Screen Kiosk

The canoe has become a timeless and evocative symbol of Canadian history and culture. With over 600 canoes and kayaks - the largest collection in the world - the task of maintaining, tracking, and managing such a collection is not an easy undertaking for the Canadian Canoe Museum, in Peterborough Ontario. Digital Interactive in conjunction with Commonwealth Historic Resource Management Limited designed a multi-media archival database to assist in the process of archiving and displaying these treasured assets.

Developed under 4th Dimension a powerful secure and flexible relational database management system. 4D provides a fully customizable and flexible environment allowing for the development of stand alone, client-server, and web based applications running on either Windows, Macintosh or a combination of both platforms.

For the Canadian Canoe Museum a simple, secure and easy to use archival module assists volunteers in the process of recording and tracking the museums assets. Support for digital images and models further enhance the value of the repository by allowing for the development of a dynamic and interactive touch screen kiosk utilizing the same archival data source. Members of the public now have full access to this rich cultural heritage that is Canada's past.
