From “A Touch of Honey” to the “San Jaun Prince” keeping track of Canada's shipping vessels is no easy task. With over 46,000 ships registered in Canada the job of providing accurate and current information to its many stakeholders is an arduous undertaking for Transport Canada. Transport Canada wanted an easy and cost effective way of distributing this expansive list of sailing vessels without providing access to its main frame database.

Digital Interactive developed download and conversion routines to transform the data from the main frame database with its many tables and reference codes into a simplified and user friendly data set. By creating a bilingual interface into a unilingual data set, customized search and reporting forms, and context sensitive help, Digital Interactive was able to design a system to locate the registration of any barge, trawler or tanker in just a few seconds.
